Love's Seasons

by Mia Wells

Summer came the love I tried to forget
Whirlwind fancies in dappled sunlight
And the words that still lay heavy in my head
Because summer had to end and turn to night
Then came autumn like an amber smile
Soft sunrises with words of forever
But then came the promises he belied
And soon it all turned to never
Winter was not as cold as he seemed
But with icy hearts came icy words
The snow was what I didn’t need
And you melted away with the heat of the hearth
And now it is spring, and love has lost and won
But with music as the food of love; it is high time I played on
