To love one such as you

by Mia Wells

My lover’s smile is like a winter eve
Gentle lips with silent mirth within his eye
But a maiden bears no heart upon her sleeve
When she knows that he may make her cry
You are like the stars, a far flung dream
But it is common word to know
That to confess my love to thee
Is but a fool’s move, for the stars just come and go
Many a poet has fallen for you
And likened you to the skies
But when you confess your love to the moon
You do not expect a reply
Do I halt my lips, and hide my heart for fear of the unknown
Or do I dare to lose, and let the seed of love’s spring bloom grow

The story of the Moon and Stars

by Mia Wells

Like a jewel upon the sky hangs the moon
In seemingly lonely rapture
Whose subtle blues and hidden gloom
The night could never capture
For who could foretell the tragic tale
That would befall our skies above
Our minds are strong, but our hearts are frail
And there is none more tragic than a tale of love
See my friend, the stars they shine
But never did they move
Never losing their heaven’s light
Not as waning as their loving moon
Each night the moon stands in the sky, high above the shrouded trees
And stars they stand, in tragic silence, for never the twain shall meet

The day I knew

by Mia Wells

I stand on the precipice
Between love and all things in between
Am I blessed with Aphrodite’s kiss?
Has cupid reconciled I with thee?
Or am I making stars of fireflies?
And seeing things that are not there
Love tends to dance with lies
And give false hope without a care
I know not what I feel for you
But there’s no mistaking this new thought
Thought love it often misconstrued
And many a tale hath come to nought
The day I knew that love was worthwhile
Was the day I made you smile

Shakespeare's Words

by Mia Wells

Wisdom told to me through play
From Shakespeare was I taught
That all the world is but a stage
And cupid’s work is often fraught
That lover’s tales do come and go
Much like the sun and moon
That I had rather hear a crow
Than a man swear he love me true
I leant Music is the food of love
And the fault lies not in our stars
But in us who cannot rise above
Us underlings with heavy hearts
Midsomer’s night, As you like, Romeo, Caesar and King Lear
No one upon this earth could ever compare to our dear Shakespeare

Love's Seasons

by Mia Wells

Summer came the love I tried to forget
Whirlwind fancies in dappled sunlight
And the words that still lay heavy in my head
Because summer had to end and turn to night
Then came autumn like an amber smile
Soft sunrises with words of forever
But then came the promises he belied
And soon it all turned to never
Winter was not as cold as he seemed
But with icy hearts came icy words
The snow was what I didn’t need
And you melted away with the heat of the hearth
And now it is spring, and love has lost and won
But with music as the food of love; it is high time I played on

Liar Liar

by Mia Wells

Do I like to look? Or look to like?
For who could know the truest end
Do I like to please? My ardour fine
Or please to like and play pretend?
Inconsistent as the weather’s mood
And quiet as the sparkling sun
Does though wish to make me a fool
When Venus’ work is done?
I pick the petals from the bloom
In seeming useless vain
Since you cannot requite or even look
To send your heart my way
I pray thee, what is your will? Your true desire
Or am I just conned by a charming liar
